My Love Is Like A Cyclone In A Swamp
It's that time again, when I post a blog about absolutely nothing...with a remarkable lack of new artwork.
I am currently in the process of a secret project. I have been working on it for about 2 weeks, and its looking like I have just about the same amount of work to finish. What is it, you ask? Well, that would be the "secret" part, wouldn't it? It's for a gallery, and not a client...which leaves me with a lot more freedom in doing it. Let's just say its on a 4'X4' sheet of birch, and involves very little ink. Oh, I should probably also mention that it may be the best drawing I have ever done, if not surely the most disturbing. None the less (I feel weird writing that as one word), I will post it on here soon.
So, after selling prints with Thumbtack for almost a year...I have decided that it's about that time to put some different pieces up there. Problem being, I have absolutely no clue as to what of my work people actually like. I have already gotten a few emails about making the current main image on my website...which is definitely an option. But really, what do you guys want me to make available as prints?
And while I am asking questions to the general public: I have also gotten a few comments about people actually not being able to see anything on Ghostco. I have no idea what these people are doing, or what browsers they are using....but still, people can't see it and that's no good for me. And quite honestly, I am not very happy with how the whole thing turned out. Are people into the fancy java image pop-ups? I have been considering totally ignoring my idea of the "single page" website and putting everything in frames, which seems to work really well for a lot of illustrators.
You would think I would have more to write about after weeks, but really I don't. If I am not working, I am playing Medal of Honor: Heroes 2 online which has become a complete pastime obsession. I have however, been watching an ungodly amount of movies which included ALL of the extended Lord Of The Rings this weekend....12 hours of magic, and I still don't really understand who exactly The Lord Of The Rings is.

Longtime fan, and I have to say, I'm really siked to see more prints available ("Don't You Leave Me Here" needs a companion).
I'd love to see (site numbers) 57, 62, or 72 available in the near future. Stoked on that secret gallery project as well.
Look forward to seeing the gallery work. I think prints of 17, 20, 51, 63, and 71 would be fantastic.
Later!
sorry that I don't have comments about your prints or website, but I do have to comment on how it's pretty fucking amazing that you can sit through 12 hours of magic that is Lord of the Rings. I did that a few years ago and haven't recovered since.
Oh man. Watching the LOTR movies straight through and then all of the extras is something I do every Christmas break now. I can't get enough of it.
It's only appropriate that I'm moving to New Zealand.
I'd like to see number 57 sold on thumbtack but that's probably just me...
I can see your site just fine but the fact that it changes the size of my browser is really irritating.
I'd like to see numbers 35, 43, and 71 as prints. Also, there was a tiger you drew once, he had a ton of arrows going through his body. I've always loved that one.
As for the 12 hours of Lord of the Rings... you're crazy.
i have all of your prints already - so any new ones would be great. But I always thought some of your strips, especially http://tinyurl.com/2t53w4 could be really interesting on the wall. Any plans to do some BIG prints?
jamie
im not sure if its the reason,
but that window resizing script you've got going is a big usability no-no.
While it's an improvement over the last script you had on there, I'm still not a fan of the pop-ups. They are pleasing to the eye, but I'd much rather use frames, separate pages for each illustration or even non-java pop-up windows.
With respect to prints---my favorites are 40, 41, 43, 62, 71 and 73.
and the weather's getting warmer! we have to hang out before it stops being cold...
my favorites are 64, 67 and 9, 57, 51 ( I also like 65 but I think it's just me )
and I really like the pop-ups they're better than these slide-frames other illustrators like to use
Personally, I would adore a print of #35.
73, 62, 57 and 25 are my favourites
and please, please don't use frames... frames are the worst!! i must admit though, i liked your lightbox better than this new java thing - it doesnt load as nicely
Without prior knowledge to what's up right now (Read: While being too lazy to check what's currently available for purchase) I'd consider buying:
11, 12, 17, 21*, 29, 32, 36, 41, 45, 61, 64, 73,
*if you don't have some kind of non-sales agreement with the bands featured in the poster.
I've had a few similar problems on my site. I found out recently that it was because of my server's security problems. Apparently security is so tight that any page that uses a c99 type script (usually blogs like your's and mine, or forums) can trigger and security violation simply by someone refreshing a page or by visiting too frequently. The server then blocks their ip address from the server entirely until I request they unblock everyone that's currently blocked. I'm looking in to some patches for my wordpress and art forum so that they do not include c99 scripts because my host is a wanker and won't turn down the ridiculous security settings. You should check in and see if that's what's going on for you as well though?
All your work is beautiful, Matt. But sepcific pictures of yours I'd love hang in my house/office:
06, 36, 38, 60 (really like 60).
Also, I find that your site comes up blank sometimes, but when I hit refresh its fine. I agree with other comments, too, that while the pop-up is cool, it can be a little tedious. I use a similar pop up on my portfolio site and I'm considering ditching it for the same reasons.
i have always loved 24 and if it were up for sale, i'd grab it in a second. you're quite amazing.
i can see it on my laptop but not my desktop.....on my desktop i use safari, im on os x leopard.... maybe its a leopard problem?
