Recently I spend a lot more time sketching than I used to, and I do a lot of it on my tablet. I have always preferred sketching in ink, but quite frankly don’t want to waste the paper these days. Something about the smoothness of the wacom pen really brings out lines that I don’t think I could do otherwise. Because of this I usually take “finished” sketches and print them out to transfer them onto decent paper, to be penciled and inked.

Anyway, I did about 15 of these drawings in hopes of being able to pull out 3-4 that I was into. The goal is to mash them all together eventually into one form. Due to my unending love for james jean’s ability to beautifully hide women’s faces, the plan is to show absolutely no facial features – just hair. I guess I am trying to lean more towards a designy/technical note than I used to, all hands and hair and fabric.

Originally I was going to do a pattern on the fabric, and now at this point I think it would be WAY too much work for the actual outcome. We’ll see though.

these sketches are fantastic. I've never been able to draw on the computer. I only work with ink on paper. I should try it though. thanks for the inspiration.

Great blog. I found it yesterday and read through every post. Particularly inspired by the paper-flipping trick. Perhaps you could share your method for Wacom sketching in a bit of detail, because when I can't really do it. I think it's because when inking on paper I push my lines generally up and right, and turn the paper. Do you trace over rough paper on th tablet? And do you build up cleaner and cleaner layers, and then discard all below?

Amazing how the sketches look, considering you made them with a wacom, great work.

I supose you use photography as reference?
